Biography of Professor Bing Sheu

 

   Dr. Bing Sheu obtained B.S. degree in EE from National Taiwan University, and Ph.D. degree in EE from University of California, Berkeley. He joined University of Southern California during 1985 – 1998, and was promoted to Full Professor in 1997. During 1999 – 2006, he served as R&D Director at Synopsys Corporation. During 2006 – 2015, he served as R&D Director at TSMC. Since 2016, he serves as a Chair Professor in Electronics Engineering and in Information Management at Chang Gung University, Taiwan. His research interests include nano-electronic circuits and systems, artificial intelligence, and global competitiveness of the youth.

   He served as Editor-in-Chief of IEEE Transactions on VLSI Systems in 1997 & 98; as Founding Editor-in-Chief of IEEE Transactions on Multimedia in 1998 & 99; as Guest Editor of Nov. 2003 Special Issue on Nanoelectronics & Nanoscale Processing at Proceedings of the IEEE; on Editorial Board of Proceedings of the IEEE during 2005 –2008, and 2008 – 2010; on “IEEE Access” open-journal in 2013. He has co-authored more than 200 technical papers at conference proceedings and journals. Dr. Sheu is co-recipient of IEEE Transactions on VLSI Systems Best Paper Award in 1995, IEEE Guillemin-Cauer Award in 1997, and recipient of IEEE CAS Society Golden Jubilee Award in 2000, IEEE CAS Society Meritorious Service Award in 2004, and Education Contribution Award from Ministry of Education (Taiwan) in 2006.

   He is an IEEE Fellow in 1996, Senior Fulbright Scholar from U.S. Information Agency in 1998. He holds Honorary Chair Professor title at National Chiao Tung University, National Taiwan University of Science and Technology, National Taipei University of Technology, and National Sun Yat-Sen University. In 2018 & 2019, he served as Chair of Fellow Evaluation Committee at IEEE Nanotechnology Council. Currently, he serves as 2020 – 2021 Editor-in-Chief of IEEE Nanotechnology Magazine.
